Walk into any grocery store, head to the frozen aisle and you’ll find plenty of “healthy” ice cream brands. Some boast high protein content, some no-sugar, others are keto-friendly. But if you truly want an ice cream with no additives and only ingredients you can pronounce, the best thing you can do is make your own.

The Yonanas Deluxe Frozen Dessert Maker creates all-natural soft serve using only frozen fruit — and first went viral on TikTok in late 2020. One post by @rachel_meaders used the machine to make strawberry banana soft serve and gained a cool 2.8 million likes. It goes without saying that this is the number one hack for making healthy ice cream.

The machine became so popular that it sold out almost everywhere. There is one place, however, you can still get it, and that’s online via QVC.

Here’s how it works

Keep in mind, the Yonanas Frozen Dessert Maker doesn’t make real ice cream, as it doesn’t use any cream at all. You can use frozen bananas, however, to get a creamy consistency. This machine makes a vegan-friendly, 100 percent fruit frozen dessert. Think of it as like a sorbet or a very thick, spoonable smoothie.

To use the machine, place your bowl below the maker and add frozen fruit to its chute. Press down with the plunger (it doesn’t take a lot of strength or effort), and that’s it. Your soft serve will come out into the bowl, ready to eat.

I tried using it — and it’s so easy

After seeing the Yonanas machine blow up on TikTok, I knew I had to try it. I absolutely love ice cream. I’ve even tried several of the high-protein, low-fat types and the dairy-free versions. But knowing this machine doesn’t make real ice cream, I set my expectations pretty low.

The machine comes with a recipe booklet, user manual and a guide for the types of bananas you should use. It says to use “cheetah spotted” bananas — not overly ripe, but still sweeter than when you first pick them up at the store. You also don’t want your bananas to be rock-solid-frozen, rather slightly thawed. About five to seven minutes out of the freezer is perfect.

I loosely followed some of the recipes provided in the booklet, making a chocolate peanut butter-flavored dessert and a strawberry-chocolate-caramel dessert. For the first, I mixed two frozen bananas with a Justin’s Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup. For the second, I mixed two bananas, 3/4 cup strawberries and half a chocolate caramel candy bar. Yes, you can mix your toppings right into the machine wit your fruit! And both of my frozen desserts tasted incredible.

With that said, the Yonanas machine far exceeded my expectations. I was surprised at just how easy it was to use — and the frozen fruit dessert was actually very, very good. Although, similar to juicing, it does take quite a bit of fruit to make a full bowl.

Get the Yonanas Frozen Dessert Maker at QVC

The Yonanas machine comes in two colors — silver and red — and is sold by QVC for $97. You may think of QVC as a strictly TV shopping network, but its website is brimming with clever products. You can find everything from clothing and home goods to electronics and fitness gear. Of course, you can also shop the items featured on QVC TV. And you don’t want to miss its daily special value and deal, which features the “best daily find with a great story” on sale.

QVC shoppers call the Yonanas Frozen Dessert Maker a “wonderful machine,” as well as “fun, easy and healthy” in the reviews.

“This is the greatest invention for that sweet craving,” wrote one customer. “The greatest thing is it doesn’t have to churn for 30 minutes like ice cream — no sugar, no dairy, just awesome frozen fruit. It took about 10 minutes to get used to it. I bought another for my aunt and uncle, and I’m buying another one for my best friend and her family. I should wait for Christmas, but I know they’ll enjoy having it this summer.”

“It’s fabulous!” wrote another. “I’m lactose intolerant and have been my whole life, but I sometimes will sacrifice my well-being for ice cream. Now, I don’t have to.”

People seem to love this frozen dessert maker — myself included. If you want to try it for yourself, you should probably get it fast, before it sells out again.
